Rule #1 Exercise

Enter a contemplative state.

Imagine that you have been asked to write a rule book explaining the rules of life for a group of young adults. Life as you think it should be played.

The only catch is the rules must be numbered in order of importance.

On the first page, you need to write a rule #1.

What will it be?

You may wish to know more about your intended audience before you answer the question. I would. Which leads to my rule One.

1. Know your audience.

Every twitch of every muscle on your body, every sound and move you make, is a communication screaming out to whoever is paying attention what your inner state may be.

If you are not aware of this, very few other rules matter. Your actions and words, primarily, impact others. Sure, they impact you, but you are just a singular Singleton.

The people around you outnumber you unless you live in solitary confinement. Now think of their extended networks. Your actions impact potentially hundreds of folks very directly. To be human is to be potentially exponential in power.

So I think, to be fully human, we must first know our audience.

But that’s just my rule number One. Yours is most likely quite different. Please feel free to share below.

Bonus exercise: If a potential AI could answer this question in a convincing way, would we believe it actually came up with the rule on it‘s own?
